Description: Daptomycin, a lipopeptide, is a antimicrobial agent active against Gram-positive bacteria. Daptomycin has a distinctive mechanism of action by disrupting plasma membrane function without penetrating into the cytoplasm. Daptomycin also demonstrates activity against multidrug-resistant, gram-positive bacteria such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, vancomycin-resistant enterococci, and glycopeptide-intermediate and -resistant S. aureus. Finally, there is in vitro evidence of Daptomycin's synergy with beta-lactam antibiotics.
